Toys R Us (sometimes stylized as Toys 'R Us or Toys "R" Us) is a chain of toy stores. The chain also operated Babies R Us, Imaginarium, and previously owned the FAO Schwarz brand.
In March 2018, Toys 'R Us filed for bankruptcy and stated they would close all US and UK locations. All US locations closed by the end of June after clearance sales. Canada's stores were purchased separately and remained open. On December 16, 2021, Toys 'R Us opened a two-story flagship store in the American Dream mall in New Jersey. In 2022 store-in-store options were opened in collaboration with Macy's stores (by Oct 15th, in time for the holiday shopping season). Select items are additionally sold through Macy's website, including Toys 'R Us brands.
In Relation to American Girl[]
Initial releases of American Girl MegaBloks were available at multiple stores, including Toys 'R Us.
Starting in Fall 2016, American Girl began to sell nearly all items in the WellieWishers line at Toys 'R Us, including the dolls.
Later, select locations received Store-in-Store American Girl mini-boutiques. These locations sold select items from the Truly Me line, including dolls, WellieWishers items, and selected items from Gabriela's Collection. This resulted in some adaptations of packaging. Selected store locations were generally at a distance from any American Girl Place locations to minimize competition (for example, the stores in Washington State were in Tacoma and Spokane, which were a significant distance away from American Girl Seattle).
Items purchased at these locations did not qualify for AG Rewards points.
Exclusive Sets[]
In 2017, two WellieWishers outfits were released as Toys R Us Exclusives: the Garden Tea Time Costume and the Flower Fun Outfit. Some unique accessory items were also exclusive.
