EmbroiderySampler

Samantha's Embroidery sample, an example of a craft kit.

Historical Character Craft Kits are craft activity kits that focuse on various craft items that Historical Characters could have realistically created during their historical time periods. They were released starting in 1991 and were retired in 1996.

Overview[]

Historical Craft Kits under the specific label were only made available for the first five Historical Characters: Felicity Merriman, Kirsten Larson, Addy Walker, Samantha Parkington, and Molly McIntire. Due to Samantha, Molly, and Kirsten having kits that had once been included in the Portfolios of Pastimes, they had two sets each as opposed to Felicity and Addy's one. However, the Straw Ornaments, Victorian Valentines, and Lanyard Kit were all phased out sometime before 1995, which left one remaining for each character.

Craft kits came in burgundy floral print card stock boxes lined with pink tissue paper and cardstock bands around the box. Instruction books were full color and lightly touched on the historical significance of the craft before directions. The components included enough supplies to make generally one to two projects, many of which were doll-sized. Each kit came with the majority of supplies needed to make the items, with most additional supplies or tools listed separately (such as scissors or glue).
