Costco

Costco (full name Costco Wholesale Corporation and doing business as Costco Wholesale) is a chain of retail stores that are membership-only discount warehouse clubs. It is as of 2020 the fifth largest retailer in the world, with worldwide headquarters in Issaquah, Washington (with its Kirkland Signature house label bearing the name of its former location in Kirkland).

The company opened its first warehouse in Seattle in 1983, though history goes back as far as 1976 under the name Price Club. A purchaser must have a membership in order to purchase from the locations or for the majority of items online.

In relation to American Girl

Costco initially sold various books and book bundles, such as Story Collections for Historical Collections, among its many book offerings. It also sold bundles of book collections with Mini Dolls or mystery puzzle sets, larger versions of the Fashion Studios, and expanded boutique versions of several craft and activity books.

Starting in 2014, pet bundle accessory sets became available. In 2015, bundles that included various dolls and/or accessory collections began to be sold through Costco. These have included retired character or Truly Me dolls and/or items, unique doll bundles and specialty items, and/or previously unreleased items. These bundles are primarily sold during the winter holiday season (September to December) when toys and other gifts are available, though some bundles have been available on the website in limited numbers outside of the holiday season. Thus, a set can be considered retired the season after it is available unless it becomes available again. Bundles are sold at notable discounts; on the website, prices are higher than in warehouses (as they include shipping) and some items require membership to purchase or see costs.

2014

• Pet House Sets: $29.99. Included a select jointed pet with accessories, color-in pet house, and Friends Forever themed activity and fact book about the pet (including caring for the toy). The sets were the Fancy Pomeranian Pet-House Set, Preppy Sheepdog Pet-House Set, and Funky Terrier Pet-House Set.

2015

• Caroline Bundle: $99.99. Caroline dolls bundled with Caroline's Party Gown.
• Bitty Baby Bundle: $99: Includes a doll in the Cuddly Star Sleeper with the Deluxe Layette Set.
• BeForever Book + Mini Doll Set: $39.99. All three available books (Central Series volumes and My Journey Books), the associated Mini doll, a unique stand, and a patterned bookmark.
• Baking with Grace Book and Activity Set: $24.99. Original book items and book, with additional apron, spatula, and mixing bowl.
• Truly Me Craft Books and Activity Sets: $24.99. • Gift Cards: Sets of $100 Gift Cards (four $25 Value Cards) for $79.99. Gift Cards could be used at any American Girl Place locations as well as online.

2016

• Samantha Bundle: the doll, Samantha's Fancy Coat Set, a modified (non-plaid) version of the dress from Samantha's Holiday Set, and Manners and Mischief for $119.99. The bundle also included a coupon for 50% off of a purchase of Samantha's (BeForever) Accessories, valid until April 2017.
• Costco Bitty Baby Bundle: $99.99. Bitty Baby doll, Cloth carrying case, sleeper, diaper, rattle, top, leggings, hat, bib, quilt, booties, and bottle.
• Horse and Saddle Set: $49.99. Chestnut Horse with accessories.
• Pet House Sets: $29.99 Same as previous year, now including the new Funky German Shepherd Pet-House Set and Preppy Kitten Pet-House Set.
