The Colonial Undergarments (also known as Felicity's Colonial Undergarments) was introduced to Felicity's Collection in 1992(?) and retired in 2008. Retail cost was $18.
Stays[]
Cream stays. Slight curve. Flexible plastic boning. Lace up the back. Originally ribbon; later a shoelace.
Pocket[]
Linen pocket on fabric tape waist tie. Floral embroidery.
The pocket can be positioned to align with the side slits in the majority of Felicity's dresses.
Hoops[]
Two cream pocket hoops on a fabric tape waist tie. Internal wires to keep shape. Slits allow hoops to be a substitute pocket.
They are called hoops in catalogs, but are more accurately panniers.
Trivia[]
- Felicity's stays are laced in a shoelace style; however, stays at the time would have most likely been spiral laced.
- Flat fronted and wide pannier style hoops with no back padding would have been phasing out of fashion in English influenced dress styles such as in Virginia; the silhouette was more a rounded skirt shape from above with bulk at the back as well as the hips, with padding by either tapered bum rolls/bumps, rumps, or split padding to accommodate pointed backs. A more accurate style bum roll--though lacking the pointed ends for shaping--is seen in the later released undergarments in 2017.
