American Girl Wiki

The Classic Face Mold was the first face mold created for the American Girl Doll line. Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly all were the first to use this face mold; it was first introduced in 1986.

The classic face mold was originally designed by Götz as their "Romina" face mold. The face mold has large eye sockets with slight tapering at the bottom. The nose is narrow and slightly upturned. The mouth has thin lips with slight dips and two visible front teeth with a slight gap; there is a rounded chin and full cheeks.

The face mold most closely resembles a European/white background and has never been used on a dark-skinned doll outside of the Create Your Own options (it has been used on medium skinned dolls). Mattel versions of the mold differ from Pleasant Company versions in that the lips and cheeks are more brightly painted and may have slight variations.

In the Create Your Own system, the mold is described as "round face with full cheeks, oval-shaped eyes," or by shape, "square."

This is the most prolific mold used by the company as of 2022.
