: American Girl has announced that three [[American Girl Place]] stores will be closing: American Girl Denver, Atlanta, and Kansas City. Due to the pandemic closings, this means the locations will not be reopening. (Source: [https://www.denverpost.com/2020/07/15/american-girl-store-colorado-closing/ Colorado’s only American Girl store is closing after ten years])
: Many books titles have been listed on Amazon.com and the [http://www.americangirlpublishing.com/new-titles/ AG Publishing site].

  +
: Retail locations are now offering at-home celebration kits. For $20 per guest (for two to twenty guests), purchasers receive a cake to go; digital invitations; themed goody bags, crafts, and doll crown, cup and saucer for each guest; and birthday crown and gift for the child. Purchasers set a pickup time and date. At the time of this news, this is available from the Charlotte, Chicago, Columbus, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Seattle and Washington D.C. locations.

; July 1, 2020 / Black Stories for Free by American Girl
<center><nowiki>*~*~*</nowiki></center>

  +
American Girl has launched the [https://www.americangirl.com/content/ag/en/hide-in-nav/equality-discover.html Commitment to Racial Equality Online Library]. The following books and videos are now available for free download and watching:
: A recent new user was banned indefinitely for massively spamming a link to an offsite page that had nothing to do with the Wiki project or information about the brand; it was clear the account was created for the sole purpose of spamming a link repeatedly to an offside petition.

  +
: For [[Melody Ellison]]: (Civil Rights, 1964)
: The Administration--that's me, AkaiKaze, and Blakegripling ph--would like to remind all users that personal offsite links (including but not limited to personal blogs, petitions, Youtube channels, personal social media, forums, etc.) are limited to a user's personal pages in limited capacity. Article links should only link offsite for factual, informational purposes (such as the link showing a brand of eyes in the Eye Swapping article, the patterns information, an author's personal website on their article, or real-world examples of accessories) and will be vetted for relevance and removed if irrelevant.

  +
:* ''[[Melody: No Ordinary Sound]]''
: Offsite links do not include sites such as Wikipedia--which is integrated into Wikia code and used as an additional cross-informational resource--Amazon or other retailers in news and informational links, news articles, or the American Girl direct social media sites for informational/confirmation purposes. However, do not link to the main site for most things such as games, product data, or informational data unless it is reliably liable to remain (such as the Archives). The AG website updates regularly and old data is removed frequently. (After all, the site has been up since 2000. It's gone through thousands of changes and removals, from games to characters to items.) It's the admin's call on what constitutes an unvetted off site spam link, and our word is final.

:* ''[[Melody: Never Stop Singing]]''

:* Accompanying Reader's and Teacher's Guides

:* Read-along video with [[Wikipedia:Mariska Hargitay|Mariska Hargitay]]
  +
:* ''Making Melody: Behind the Scenes'' with [[Denise Lewis Patrick]]

  +
: For [[Cécile Rey]] (with [[Marie-Grace Gardner]]): New Orleans, 1853
: Any personal, unvetted, offsite links spammed or linked in articles that show blatant disregard for the purposes of the Wiki--as the spammer did--will result in blocks, up to and including a full ban. I normally wouldn't say anything about it because it's just drawing attention to bad behavior, but after reverting well over a hundred different articles that were spammed/damaged with this petition, I believe said spammer should be ashamed of themselves for their actions and wasting time and resources. They should have known better. Don't Do What Danny Banned Does.

The company has stated they will accelerate their progress in stories and characters that represent the black community and other communities of color and diversity. Some specifics include:
  +
  +
:* The launch of ''What It Means to Be an American Girl Today'', a series of virtual and in-person discussions about race and diversity. Initial discussion will be led by writers of the Black stories on the line (e.g. [[Connie Porter]], [[Denise Lewis Patrick]]) and experts, and help the company listen to the voices of the community.
  +
:* Starting July 1st, all the stories about the Black characters will be added to the Online Library as free downloads. AG is also making a commitment to launch more fiction and non fiction books about topics of racial equality and justice.
  +
:* Bringing more black voices into their discussions and advice on creation including consultants, influencers, parents, and children.
  +
:* The planning and release of a new Black Contemporary character (likely a [[Girls of the Year|Girl of the Year]]) and other contemporary characters of color.
  +
:* The donation of a minimum of $50,000 worth of books to libraries focusing on the stories of [[Kaya]], [[Addy]], [[Josefina]], [[Rebecca]] (who is a character of religious diversity but not of color), [[Nanea]], and [[Melody]].

  +
: The following [[American Girl Place]] stores are currently open: Seattle, Charlotte, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Fransisco, and Washington D.C.
  +
  +
: Stores may have shorter hours, limited bistros, and limited doll salons. Stores with bistros have switched to disposable menus and have temporarily removed loaner dolls from our cafés and party rooms. Chicago offers curbside pickup (as does New York, though the store itself is not open). At several locations face coverings are required due to local guidelines, and all fitting rooms are closed at this time.
  +
  +
: Please check [https://www.americangirl.com/retail/covid-questions American Girl's FAQ] for all regulations, and continue to practice safe social distancing.

: Also note that delivery time for [[Create Your Own]] dolls and outfits has been extended to approximately ten weeks from the order date due to the pandemic.
: There will be three day blocks if this is done by anyone. The [[{{SITENAME}}:Sandbox|Sandbox]] is there to see how codes are used before edits are done, and I just added info about coding link. Editor time is wasted fixing this repeatedly. Consider this the official warning.

: in the wake of the [https://blacklivesmatter.com/ Black Lives Matter] activity in 2020--a international human rights movement founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin's murderer and amplified in 2020 by the death of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and the following nation- and worldwide protests--Mattel and its subsidiaries have, like many companies and businesses, spoken out about the movement and recognized their shortcomings in representation and black support in the Mattel Play Fair Initiative. This has been specifically noted in relation to American Girl on their [https://www.instagram.com/p/CBWsFiQjOqT/ Instagram account] and [https://www.facebook.com/americangirl/posts/3107881199255019 Facebook account], as well as on the [https://corporate.mattel.com/news/mattels-statement-on-commitment-to-the-black-community corporate site]. Specifics noted across the company:
  +
  +
* Increasing efforts to build a workforce that reflects the diversity of our community, focusing on the development and recruitment of Black talent.
  +
* Investment in the next generation of the Black community with intention, by providing access and opportunities.
  +
* Offering products, content and experiences built on the foundation of diversity, ensuring that the stories of the Black community are seen and heard.
  +
* Mattel is donating $250,000 to NAACP youth programs and going forward will donate proceeds from future product sales and initiatives of at least $250,000 to fund educational programs focused on supporting Black girls.
  +
* Specific to American Girl, representatives have stated that they will not be retiring the [[Addy Walker (doll)|Addy doll]] nor her [[Addy Mold|mold]], both of which have been lessened in promotions and product in recent years.

; June 13, 2020 / This Week on the American Girl Library - Week Twelve
; November 20th, 2017 / Rumors, Leaks, and Hearsay - Don't ''DO'' It!

  +
: This week's free books from the [https://www.americangirl.com/explore/articles/onlinelibrary American Girl Online Library] are ''[[Rebecca: The Sound of Applause]]'', the accompanying teacher's guide, and ''[[A Smart Girl's Guide: Knowing What to Say]]''.
[[File:Meet Kit 1.jpg|250px|thumb|Don't publish hearsay: it's bad news!]]

: It's the time of year where rumors about new products, especially new Girls of the Year, start leaking. And it's that time where people might be tempted to post unconfirmed details on characters that might be coming out. So the Administration is taking this moment to reiterate the [[{{SITENAME}}:Rumors, Leaks, and Hearsay|policies against rumors, leaks, and hearsay]].

  +
: As American Girl has stated they would do twelve total weeks, it is unknown if more books will be available after this week.
: American Girl is an active business with constant new items. There are regular releases, re-releases, new items, new characters, new books, and/or new details. This means that leaks happen often, especially when people obtain items early or off online auctions from secondhand sources. However, we here at the A*G Wiki has made it our policy to '''not''' allow any information on any topic from any non-legitimate sources. The only information we accept are from sources that can be verified.

  +
: [[User:Nethilia|Nethilia]], The Admin
: Images, names, and descriptions of characters and products found through searches across the internet--even if they are likely legitimate direct stock images--that are posted by anyone other than AG or press releases by AG ''are not verified.'' Until AG themselves release the images or names, they are not verified. We here at the A*G Wiki respect the [[American Girl|company]] enough not to show images or start articles about characters that they haven't openly released yet.

June 23, 2020 / American Girl's Statement of Commitment to Racial Equality
American Girl has made an official statement of Commitment to Racial Equality on their Instagram account, Twitter accountand Facebook page. ETA: The commitment is now on the website at Our Commitment to Racial Equality.

The company has stated they will accelerate their progress in stories and characters that represent the black community and other communities of color and diversity. Some specifics include:

  • The launch of What It Means to Be an American Girl Today, a series of virtual and in-person discussions about race and diversity. Initial discussion will be led by writers of the Black stories on the line (e.g. Connie Porter, Denise Lewis Patrick) and experts, and help the company listen to the voices of the community.
  • Starting July 1st, all the stories about the Black characters will be added to the Online Library as free downloads. AG is also making a commitment to launch more fiction and non fiction books about topics of racial equality and justice.
  • Bringing more black voices into their discussions and advice on creation including consultants, influencers, parents, and children.
  • The planning and release of a new Black Contemporary character (likely a Girl of the Year) and other contemporary characters of color.
  • The donation of a minimum of $50,000 worth of books to libraries focusing on the stories of Kaya, Addy, Josefina, Rebecca (who is a character of religious diversity but not of color), Nanea, and Melody.

June 14, 2020 / American Girl, the Mattel Play Fair Initiative and the Black Lives Matter Movement
in the wake of the Black Lives Matter activity in 2020--a international human rights movement founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin's murderer and amplified in 2020 by the death of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and the following nation- and worldwide protests--Mattel and its subsidiaries have, like many companies and businesses, spoken out about the movement and recognized their shortcomings in representation and black support in the Mattel Play Fair Initiative. This has been specifically noted in relation to American Girl on their Instagram account and Facebook account, as well as on the corporate site. Specifics noted across the company:

Starting June 8th, American Girl will launch the "Heroes With Heart" Contest, asking children with the help of their parents to nominate a hero who has made a difference during the pandemic (such as medical professionals, essential retail workers, delivery drivers, etc.) American Girl will select five Grand Prize winners; the nominator will receive a $200 American Girl gift card while the honoree will receive a custom doll and outfit in their likeness. More details will be released on the 8th.
