; August 24, 2016 / Upcoming American Girl Books
+
; June 23, 2020 / American Girl's Statement of Commitment to Racial Equality

  +
: American Girl has made an official statement of Commitment to Racial Equality on their Instagram account, Twitter accountand Facebook page. The company has stated they will accelerate their progress in stories and characters that represent the black community and other communities of color and diversity. Some specifics include:
: New books have been listed on Amazon.com, due in 2017

  +
:* The launch of What It Means to Be an American Girl Today, a series of virtual and in-person discussions about race and diversity. Initial discussion will be led by writers of the Black stories on the line (e.g. Connie Porter, Denise Lewis Patrick) and experts, and help the company listen to the voices of the community.
: For the BeForever Historical Character Mysteries:

  +
:* Starting July 1st, all the stories about the Black characters will be added to the Online Library as free downloads. AG is also making a commitment to launch more fiction and non fiction books about topics of racial equality and justice.
  +
:* Bringing more black voices into their discussions and advice on creation including consultants, influencers, parents, and children.
  +
:* The planning and release of a new Black Contemporary character (likely a Girl of the Year) and other contemporary characters of color.
  +
:* The donation of a minimum of $50,000 worth of books to libraries focusing on the stories of Kaya, Addy, Josefina, Rebecca (who is a character of religious diversity but not of color), Nanea, and Melody.

  +
: Nethilia, The Admin, who if you didn't know by now, is Black
:* The Lady's Slipper, a Melody Ellison Mystery

  +
Clr
:* Message in a Bottle, a Julie Albright Mystery

:* The Runaway, a Maryellen Larkin Mystery

  +
; June 22, 2020 / Reopened Stores and Create Your Own Delays
: Three new WellieWishers books:

  +
: The following American Girl Place stores are currently open: Seattle, Charlotte, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Fransisco, and Washington D.C.
:* The Mystery of Mr. E

:* The Rainstorm Brainstorm

:* Camille's Mermaid Tale

  +
: Stores may have shorter hours, limited bistros, and limited doll salons. Stores with bistros have switched to disposable menus and have temporarily removed loaner dolls from our cafés and party rooms. Chicago offers curbside pickup (as does New York, though the store itself is not open). At several locations face coverings are required due to local guidelines, and all fitting rooms are closed at this time.
: Finally, three books that, at present, sound like a potential rerelease of Felicity Merriman's Central Series:

  +
: Please check American Girl's FAQ for all regulations, and continue to practice safe social distancing.
:* A Stand for Independence

:* Love and Loyalty

:* Gunpowder and Tea Cakes

  +
: Also note that delivery time for Create Your Own dolls and outfits has been extended to approximately ten weeks from the order date due to the pandemic.
: As of right now there is very little detail on the last three books, other than two are by Valerie Tripp; however, the titles seem to lean towards a focus on Felicity. ETA, 8/27/16: Additional information on the descriptions shows a release date of February 2017 as well as the category of "Colonial", helping this lean towards a rerelease of Felicity's Central Series stories.

: Remember, we don't do Rumors, so don't cause trouble.

; June 14, 2020 / American Girl, the Mattel Play Fair Initiative and the Black Lives Matter Movement
: ETA: American Girl has also put up a preview of several items for Melody's collection, including clothes, furniture, and accessories.

  +
: in the wake of the Black Lives Matter activity in 2020--a international human rights movement founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin's murderer and amplified in 2020 by the death of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and the following nation- and worldwide protests--Mattel and its subsidiaries have, like many companies and businesses, spoken out about the movement and recognized their shortcomings in representation and black support in the Mattel Play Fair Initiative. This has been specifically noted in relation to American Girl on their Instagram account and Facebook account, as well as on the corporate site.   +
* Mattel is donating $250,000 to NAACP youth programs and going forward will donate proceeds from future product sales and initiatives of at least $250,000 to fund educational programs focused on supporting Black girls.
  +
* Specific to American Girl, representatives have stated that they will not be retiring the Addy doll nor her mold, both of which have been lessened in promotions and product in recent years.

; August 4, 2016 / Gymnastics Bundle and Back-to-School/A+ Sale

  +
:* The sale will be online only, as was expected.
: A bundle for the Truly Me collection has been released, the “Gymnastics Star” Collection. This includes the Two-in-One Gymnastics Practice Outfit, Rhythmic Gymnastics Outfit, and Gymnastics Set for $115 (from original costs of $149, a savings of $34/22%). Adding any available Truly Me doll increases the cost to $205 (from $264, a savings of $59/22%). These bundles are available until August 8 and have free shipping.

  +
:* Orders can be placed on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26. This is a change from the original July 11-12 dates, to give time to facilitate the online system.
  +
:* Access to shopping online will be in the same order and weekend day as ticketed entry times. Quantity limits will be in effect, just as at the physical sale, by ticket. A ticket allows one online purchase of a shopping cart of goods, honoring all quantity limits. A second ticket allows another online purchase, with refreshed quantity limits, and so on.
  +
:* As with previous sales, on Sunday there will be additional markdowns and limit changes.
  +
:* All orders will be shipped to the purchaser. Curbside pickup options will not be available. Shipping costs will be calculated during checkout and included in the purchase total at the time of checkout. While MCM is negotiating the best possible deals for shipping, buyers should expect shipping charges similar to standard shipping of items through the post office or UPS store.
  +
:*MCM has decided that no additional tickets will be offered for this year's benefit sale.
  +
:* Dolls and Friends Pajama Party kits will be available in limited quantities. Each kit will include a Bitty Baby doll, special craft project supplies, and an invitation to participate in an exclusive online video party in the fall; exact date(s) will be listed.

  +
: Due to the multiple logistic changes, MCM for this year is changing the longstanding refund policy and will offer refunds to current ticket holders. Requests for refunds must be made by the 15th of June. Alternatively--since this is a benefit sale for charity--there will also be an option to donate any unneeded ticket(s) to the cause. People may also transfer their tickets to others.
: There is also a sale--A+ Sale--through August 15th. This includes various Truly Me outfits, school-based Truly-Me Accessories, BeForever school outfits, BeForever accessories, craft kits, the Limited edition Mini Dolls, and various books and accessories.

; August 3, 2016 / AG Rewards Offer for Melody's AG Rewards Collection

: Customers that opted into AG Rewards before July 27th were, on August 1, offered a preorder to purchase Melody's AG Rewards Collection,, a unique starter collector for Melody Ellison costing $212. This includes the Melody Ellison doll along with the following items:

:* Melody's Accessories

:* Melody's Dog, Bo

:* Melody's Fancy Floral Dress

:* Melody's Hairstyling Set

: Items cannot be removed or adjusted online. The order has free shipping; furthermore, American Girl intends to ship orders in order to have the order arrive to purchasers on or before August 18th, a week before Melody's official debut on August 25th. (Purchases are only shipped and cannot be picked up in stores.) This is an offer only available to AG Rewards members that signed up before July 27th, and is only available through August 8th.

: This does mean that there will be some people who will have Melody and some of her items before the official launch. However, quality doesn't change. Write well-written contributions for new or existing articles, give good detail pictures, and don't try to "first" this.

; July 28, 2016 / AG Rewards

: Several weeks late with the news, but: American Girl has started a rewards program, aptly named AG Rewards, that rewards customers for their purchases with rewards. The program is free to sign up for. At its most basic, every dollar spent (minus taxes and/or shipping) is a point added to the account with a $10 reward coupon issued after 200 points (so $200 of puchases). Other exclusive offers are given as higher levels of points are reached in a year: Silver (0-349); Gold (350-699), and Berry (700+).

  +
: The American Girl Online Library has extended two additional weeks. This week's free book is Luciana.
More information can be found on the website at A*G Rewards; details will be placed on the Wiki later on.

; June 3, 2020 / Two New Books in the Smart Girl's Series
; July 12, 2016 / GOTY 2017, other book news

  +
: Two new books are to be released this fall in the Smart Girl's Guides series, as spotted on Amazon:
: Amazon listings for Girl of the Year 2017 have appeared:

  +
:* A Smart Girl's Guide: Making a Difference: focusing on ways to change the world and improve one's society
:* Book 1

  +
:* A Smart Girl's Guide: Crushes: An updated version of A Smart Girl's Guide to Boys that will include information on a variety of romantic feelings, rather than only focusing on girls crushing towards boys.
:* Book 2, scheduled for release in March 2017

  +
: Nethilia, The Admin
: The author, Teresa E. Harris, is a woman of color and the books she has written have featured protagonists of color, so there is a possibility GOTY 2017 may be a girl of color.

  +
Clr

: There is a trio of books written by Kellen Hertz, who co-authored Lea and Camila with Lisa Yee:

:* Contemporary MG Novel 1

:* Contemporary MG Novel 2

:* Contemporary MG Series 1, Character Journal

: The only information of note is that these three books appear to be targeting middle grade (ages 8-12) readers and seems to be an original series of contemporary fiction outside the GOTY line.

: It bears repeating: this wiki has a zero-tolerance policy on rumors and speculation, and any form of rumormongering will get you banned.

The launch weekend is June 23-26th at all American Girl stores, and June 23 at the website, giving a short launch time. and included examples include additional outfits, playsets, and girl sized clothing based on the five main characters, including clear wellies (rainboots) and socks.

June 23, 2020 / American Girl's Statement of Commitment to Racial Equality
American Girl has made an official statement of Commitment to Racial Equality on their Instagram account, Twitter accountand Facebook page. The company has stated they will accelerate their progress in stories and characters that represent the black community and other communities of color and diversity. Some specifics include:
 • The launch of What It Means to Be an American Girl Today, a series of virtual and in-person discussions about race and diversity. Initial discussion will be led by writers of the Black stories on the line (e.g. Connie Porter, Denise Lewis Patrick) and experts, and help the company listen to the voices of the community.
 • Starting July 1st, all the stories about the Black characters will be added to the Online Library as free downloads. AG is also making a commitment to launch more fiction and non fiction books about topics of racial equality and justice.
 • Bringing more black voices into their discussions and advice on creation including consultants, influencers, parents, and children.
 • The planning and release of a new Black Contemporary character (likely a Girl of the Year) and other contemporary characters of color.
 • The donation of a minimum of $50,000 worth of books to libraries focusing on the stories of Kaya, Addy, Josefina, Rebecca (who is a character of religious diversity but not of color), Nanea, and Melody.

June 22, 2020 / Reopened Stores and Create Your Own Delays
The following American Girl Place stores are currently open: Seattle, Charlotte, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Fransisco, and Washington D.C.
Stores may have shorter hours, limited bistros, and limited doll salons.
Please check American Girl's FAQ for all regulations, and continue to practice safe social distancing.
Also note that delivery time for Create Your Own dolls and outfits has been extended to approximately ten weeks from the order date due to the pandemic.

June 14, 2020 / American Girl, the Mattel Play Fair Initiative and the Black Lives Matter Movement
in the wake of the Black Lives Matter activity in 2020--a international human rights movement founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin's murderer and amplified in 2020 by the death of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and the following nation- and worldwide protests--Mattel and its subsidiaries have, like many companies and businesses, spoken out about the movement and recognized their shortcomings in representation and black support in the Mattel Play Fair Initiative. This has been specifically noted in relation to American Girl on their Instagram account and Facebook account, as well as on the corporate site. Specifics noted across the company:
 • Increasing efforts to build a workforce that reflects the diversity of our community, focusing on the development and recruitment of Black talent.
 • Investment in the next generation of the Black community with intention, by providing access and opportunities.
 • Offering products, content and experiences built on the foundation of diversity, ensuring that the stories of the Black community are seen and heard.
 • Mattel is donating $250,000 to NAACP youth programs and going forward will donate proceeds from future product sales and initiatives of at least $250,000 to fund educational programs focused on supporting Black girls.
 • Specific to American Girl, representatives have stated that they will not be retiring the Addy doll nor her mold, both of which have been lessened in promotions and product in recent years.

June 8, 2020 / Changes to the MCM Sale for 2020
The Madison Children's Museum has released data via e-mail about the logistics of this year's MCM Sale, and the changes that are being made due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
 • The sale will be online only, as was expected.
 • Orders can be placed on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26. This is a change from the original July 11-12 dates, to give time to facilitate the online system.
 • Access to shopping online will be in the same order and weekend day as ticketed entry times. Quantity limits will be in effect, just as at the physical sale, by ticket. A ticket allows one online purchase of a shopping cart of goods, honoring all quantity limits. A second ticket allows another online purchase, with refreshed quantity limits, and so on.
 • As with previous sales, on Sunday there will be additional markdowns and limit changes.
 • All orders will be shipped to the purchaser. Curbside pickup options will not be available. Shipping costs will be calculated during checkout and included in the purchase total at the time of checkout. While MCM is negotiating the best possible deals for shipping, buyers should expect shipping charges similar to standard shipping of items through the post office or UPS store.
 • MCM has decided that no additional tickets will be offered for this year's benefit sale.
 • Dolls and Friends Pajama Party kits will be available in limited quantities. Each kit will include a Bitty Baby doll, special craft project supplies, and an invitation to participate in an exclusive online video party in the fall; exact date(s) will be listed.
Due to the multiple logistic changes, MCM for this year is changing the longstanding refund policy and will offer refunds to current ticket holders. Requests for refunds must be made by the 15th of June. Alternatively--since this is a benefit sale for charity--there will also be an option to donate any unneeded ticket(s) to the cause. People may also transfer their tickets to others.
Full information can be read online at the official website.

Starting June 8th, American Girl will launch the "Heroes With Heart" Contest, asking children with the help of their parents to nominate a hero who has made a difference during the pandemic (such as medical professionals, essential retail workers, delivery drivers, etc.) American Girl will select five Grand Prize winners; the nominator will receive a $200 American Girl gift card while the honoree will receive a custom doll and outfit in their likeness.
