Luciana Vega is the 2018 Girl of the Year. She aspires to be the first person to ever go to Mars and is the first Latina Girl of the Year since Marisol Luna!

Kit's Gardening outfit is the third outfit in her collection that has centered around overalls. In the 1930s, overalls were not considered proper public wear for girls; they still had to wear dresses or skirts to places like school.

• Samantha Parkington, Kirsten Larson, and Molly McIntire were the first three characters released in 1986.
• The lower necklines of colonial fashions for Felicity Merriman resulted in the original white bodies of the dolls to be replaced with closer-matching colored torsos in 1991.
• The Portfolios of Pastimes included a set of authentic historical games from the eras.
• The first American Girls of Today came with a six-book set intended to encourage purchasers to create their own six-book Central Series.
• Girls of Many Lands uniquely covered eras and locations beyond the United States and were aimed at older girls.
