About American Girl

Modified from Wikipedia:

American Girl is a line of dolls and accessories that was based on pre-teen-girl characters from various periods of American history. The company's flagship line is a collection of historical 18-inch dolls spanning from early Native America to the 1970s. The characters, representing nine-year-old girls, live through variant times in American history and provide a child's perspective of significant events that helped to shape the United States. The line later expanded to include modern dolls, Girls of the Year, baby dolls and twins, and dolls from other countries.

They keep a website here: American Girl where items can be purchased and games can be played.

Mission Statement

So, what's this wiki about? Pretty simple. The point of this project is provide an open and honest database of knowledge about American Girl, its products, and its characters and stories. Too much basic and in depth knowledge about the company and creations are contained in closed or off-limits forums that screen out those they feel aren't welcome because of who they are--and people outside of those small circles are left in the cold to research on their own. And even if you can get in, things can be dripping with opinions and backbiting.

And really, when you think about it, that's annoying. Anyone should be able to hit up their favorite search engine and learn about American Girl stuff. That's what a good database is about--open knowledge for anyone and everyone.

This wiki exists to allow anyone who wants to research American Girl or contribute to the knowledge to do it freely, without feeling that they are tied to a single board or forum or that they have to deal with other people's personalities and drama.

We also strive to be the most up-to-date database on new American Girl items as they are released. We might not have a lot about Items Released in 1989 yet, but when it comes to Items Released in 2010--we're on it like whoa!
