The movie had been scheduled for a December 2022 release in a partnership between American Girl and HBO. The merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery (which included HBO) left the release in limbo. The movie was eventually released in July 2023 on Amazon Prime, available free with an Amazon Prime subscription.
